Founded on June 23, 1925, it is one of the oldest chess federations in Europe.<\/p><p data-start=\"357\" data-end=\"864\">The President of Iceland, Ms. Halla T\u00f3masd\u00f3ttir, attended the official centenary celebrations. FIDE was represented by Secretary General \u0141ukasz Turlej and European Chess Union (ECU) President Zurab Azmaiparashvili, along with ECU Vice-President Gunnar Bjornsson. The event was hosted by Ms. J\u00f3hanna Bj\u00f6rg J\u00f3hannsd\u00f3ttir, President of the Icelandic Chess Federation.
